The Nobel Prize....

Tapi seandainya it’s the other way around, maka kerugian besarlah bagi kita… [Riwayat Ahmad]…semoga kita semua dipelihara Allah darinya…Ameen.

Suka untuk ana kaitkan entry kali ni dengan The Nobel Prize Award. In The Nobel Prize Award, the winner for that year will be announced in front of other world class scientists. It’s going to be very competitive and only the best among the best would be granted the prize. Ana pun kurang periksa kenapa Australians are prone to inflammatory bowel disease…tapi ana assume sebab dietary intake mereka. Allahu a’laam..Untuk makluman , entry kali ini agak panjang. Harap antum semua dapat bersabar untuk membacanya dari awal hingga akhir (if you really have some spare time). Thank you in advance for your time.

Sedikit info tentang sejarah The Nobel Prize (ana copy and paste je ni..takperlah kot..sebab tak perlu sign plagiarism sheet…hehe)

The Nobel Prize

Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.

Australian 2005 Nobel Prize Winners

Barry Marshall and Robin Warren received the prize in 2005 for their discovery in 1982 of the Helicobacter pylori bacterium which causes stomach ulcers and gastritis.

A summary from the Press Release concerning the achievement in Medicine and Physiology:

This year's Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine made the remarkable and unexpected discovery that inflammation in the stomach (gastritis) as well as ulceration of the stomach or duodenum (peptic ulcer disease) is the result of an infection of the stomach caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori.

Robin Warren (born 1937), a pathologist from Perth, Australia, observed small curved bacteria colonizing the lower part of the stomach (antrum) in about 50% of patients from which biopsies had been taken. He made the crucial observation that signs of inflammation were always present in the gastric mucosa close to where the bacteria were seen.

Barry Marshall (born 1951), a young clinical fellow, became interested in Warren's findings and together they initiated a study of biopsies from 100 patients. After several attempts, Marshall succeeded in cultivating a hitherto unknown bacterial species (later denoted Helicobacter pylori) from several of these biopsies. Together they found that the organism was present in almost all patients with gastric inflammation, duodenal ulcer or gastric ulcer. Based on these results, they proposed that Helicobacter pylori is involved in the aetiology of these diseases.

Even though peptic ulcers could be healed by inhibiting gastric acid production, they frequently relapsed, since bacteria and chronic inflammation of the stomach remained. In treatment studies, Marshall and Warren as well as others showed that patients could be cured from their peptic ulcer disease only when the bacteria were eradicated from the stomach. Thanks to the pioneering discovery by Marshall and Warren, peptic ulcer disease is no longer a chronic, frequently disabling condition, but a disease that can be cured by a short regimen of antibiotics and acid secretion inhibitors.

Kalau ana rujuk kamus yang ada di sisi ana sekarang ini, “Nobel” is defined as “morally good or generous in a way that is admired.”

Last Friday Khalid went to the HKL for inguinal lymph node biopsy and CT scan...the results didn't come out yet...but from the blood that was taken that day...he had increase in total WBC...30, and very low platelet, only 26 (N:150-400) for those who did not know. This is a bad sign...we were very worried that the disease will come back again....we prayed so hard that it will not relapse after 2 years Khalid in remission...The doctor let him went back home just for the weekend and gave him Prednisolone (steroid) to suppress the production of white blood cells... Buton Monday, despite of the steroid his WBC still increasing...up to 50...

The doctor took the blood again and observed it under the microscope...and Khalid was confirmed to get the disease again, but now it manifest as a leaukimia...I'm very sad...kesian Khalid...Besarnya ujian Allah...lagi sebulan he's going to take SPM that was delayed for 2years...he is going to be 19 this December and still haven't finish school...Sepuluh Akhir Ramadhan we've got to use it sangat2...banyakkan doa...semoga Allah sembuhkan Khalid...and Sumayyah too...Last Tuesday...he'd started the chemotherapy back...again...induction treatment for 1month...Adriamycin and Vincristine....raya kat hospital lagi this year...

I adore your family very much. I pray that I can have that ‘bi’ah solehah’ as your family and instill it to my own family members..inshaAllahu khayr

Wallahu ta'ala a'laam..
Ukhtil mukhlisah,
